I’m Jiwan. I design things, and it all starts with noticing.
Sometimes it’s a small detail, like a misaligned icon or a button that’s two pixels off. Other times it’s something in my day that could work better. I notice it, and it becomes my next idea.
Background
I started in graphic design. Along the way I also learned art and photography.
Then I found UX, and it is where I get to use all of it. One project can need layout, color, composition, and an eye for detail. Nothing I have learned goes to waste.
What I Notice
People tell me I see what other people don’t.
Lately it’s printer screens. Why do they still look twenty years old? The screen is overly complicated, with too many buttons. It overwhelms people trying to use the printer.
Things like this stay with me. A lot of my designs start with noticing something like that.
Things I Love Outside of Design
I love baseball. I have been playing catch with my dad and friends, and going to the ballpark, since I was little.
It is such a beautiful sport. It revolves around failure. Even the best hitters fail seven times out of ten. A game that looks lost can flip in one inning. It is unpredictable, just like the way life is.
Then there’s the sacrifice fly and the sacrifice bunt. A player gives up his turn so the team can move ahead, and it doesn’t go unnoticed. Baseball acknowledges it in the scorebook as a sacrifice. I love that.
